A New Website for My Own Business

And it only took 12 years.

As a web designer, I’ve spent over two decades crafting websites that reflect my clients’ visions. Whether it’s a sleek e-commerce store or a clean, professional portfolio, I’ve poured my expertise into ensuring every site meets their goals. Yet, when it came to creating my own website—the digital face of my business—it always felt like the hardest project of all.

Since I went freelance back in 2012, I’ve built countless websites for myself, often experimenting with new ideas and trying to capture the perfect representation of my work. Some were bold experiments, others followed the trends of the moment, but none of them truly felt like me. I would launch one, feel dissatisfied, and take it down shortly after. The cycle of building and rebuilding was exhausting, fuelled by a relentless pursuit of perfection—and always distracted by client work, which often left my own projects sidelined.

This is a challenge many professionals face. Builders spend their days constructing dream homes for clients but might live in half-finished houses themselves. Architects create stunning designs but delay their personal projects indefinitely. For me, the struggle was the same: finding the time, energy, and confidence to prioritise my own website.

There’s a quote attributed to Leonardo da Vinci that perfectly captures this: “Art is never finished, only abandoned.” It’s a truth that resonates deeply in the creative process. My pursuit of perfection in every pixel and paragraph kept me from moving forward. I constantly tweaked and second-guessed, trapped in a cycle of overthinking and hesitation.

But something changed. I began to recognise that my own website didn’t need to be flawless—it needed to reflect me: my skills, my personality, and my commitment to helping clients succeed. So, I embraced a new approach. I stopped chasing perfection and started embracing progress, one paragraph at a time. As I started to write and design, new ideas kept coming, to the point that the final site ended up much bigger than I ever set out to achieve, filled with illustrations that added character and helped to bring my ideas to life.

Now, for the first time, I’m proud to say my website feels complete. It tells my story, showcases my capabilities, and embodies the very principles I bring to every client project: clarity, functionality, and a touch of creativity.

This journey has been about more than design. It’s been about building confidence—not just in my work but in my ability to share it with the world. Letting go of perfection allowed me to move forward, and I’m excited to bring this renewed energy to my clients, helping them overcome their own obstacles and reach their goals.

If you’re ready to create a website that works for you, let’s connect. Sometimes, the hardest step is the first one, but it’s always worth it.
